As some of you may know Gannon has had many problems with his nose always being stuffy. He had tubes in his ears and his adenoids out a little over two years ago. Well his stuffy nose didn't stop being stuffy so I took him back to the doctor who put him on singular, Claritin and flonase, they told us he had allergies as well as chronic rhinitis. So after all of these medicines nightly and no change I talked to the doctor and they said to take him to the allergist and see if we can pinpoint what he is allergic to. So he went through this...
Like a trooper, no tears, just curious as to what was happening and what it looked like. All, for no reason. He is not allergic to ANYTHING! We have been putting all of these medicines into his system for nothing! No purpose at all! All the money wasted AND all those doses he didn't have to take, I hate thinking about it. Anyway, so the doctor gave us Nasonex for his stuffiness and said to do it 2 times a day for 10 days and then we will go back to him, than if that doesn't work he will have to try another medicine and probably a shot of something at the following appointment and than go back to him and than if it still doesn't work he will refer us to the ear and nose specialist. So I skipped about 2 months of doctors appointments and hundreds of dollars worth of bills and in January got him in to see the ear and nose specialist. They told us he has to go back in for surgery, his ears are full of fluid and he will need tubes again, they are thinning out the lining in his nose so he has more room to breath and they will look to see if he needs his tonsils out and if adenoids grew back. So we take him in hoping for the best and that they wont have to take his tonsils out... Well this poor kid had it all! He had his tonsils out, ears drained, adenoids back out (They grew half back.. .they grow BACK!), lining in his nose thinned, tubes in his ears... Coming out of the surgery he did better, as in he didn’t flip out and we had to hold him down, I was actually able to sit with him and hold him and we both just cried as I could tell he was in so much pain it was breaking my heart!
He drank good and they let us go soon after. He was wiped out for the rest of the day and had such a bad bloody nose from the surgery that it drove him crazy... I know this isn’t a pretty picture, but its for him and us to remember...
That was his fourth towel that he had filled!!
Anyway, I felt like everyone was crazy and that this whole tonsils out thing was a cinch... on Wed night I had been up with himat 2 am for an hour and a half and I had gotten him to eat one bite of ice cream, Thurs I was in the ER with a child who was incredibly dehydrated and he had an IV in his arm. It was sad, and I was hoping he would get the point.... Sunday we were back in the hospital because he was dehydrated, thankfully they said if he would eat a Popsicle he wouldn’t need an IV, he ate 2, but tell me why it had to be a $1,000 Popsicle from the hospital and not the ones we kept offering at home? Anyway, after this he was getting better and this last weekend I knew he was fine when he ate a half a bag of Cheetos and a half a bag of skittles at Braxten’s football game! Life is now back to normal, Gannon lost far too much weight (at least 3-4 lbs within the first 2-3 days) He doesn’t have his chubby cheeks anymore : ( but he is back to raiding our pantry, however he still thinks he should be allowed to eat ice cream for dinner... we are going back in for a follow up appointment on Wed March 18th so we will see how that goes!! I will post November... that’s right I said November.. Here in a little bit!!!
